IT may be the end of November but it’s time for a bit of summer lovin’.
In Yer Space’s production of Grease hits the Gaiety Theatre stage tomorrow (Friday) night, kicking off a week-long run.
Director Colin Snell said: ‘Grease is one of those musicals that is difficult to tire of. It remains infectious, it’s vibrant, dynamic and the songs are now classics. It really is the original high school musical.’
Unlike many versions of Grease, this Jim Jacobs and Warren Casey production is very much a show by adults and not teenagers.
‘It is an amateur production with professional production values,’ explained Colin.
‘There is no set available for hire, for example, as the show is not generally available for amateurs in the British Isles so we have had to design and have our own set constructed in the island.
‘It is then either being sold on or rented to a theatrical set provider in the UK which is excellent for us.
‘Even the car is being made – and not out of cardboard either.’
Danny will be played by Liam Kaneen while Kathryn Power takes on the role of Sandy.
Rizzo will be played by Lisa Kreisky, Kenickie by Damain Kneale, Frenchy by Kerry Middleton, Doody by Joe Hillard, Marty by Jooles Morrison and Sonny by Jack Divers.
Jan will be played by Beth Magee, Roger by David Dawson, Claire-Louise-Cubbons as Patty Simcox and Matty Rycroft as Eugene.
And Jane Short will take on the role of Ms Lynch, Michael Bonner will be Vince Fontaine and Alex Toohey will take the role of Teen Angel.
The show runs until Saturday, December 1, with performances starting at 7.30pm each night plus matinees at 2.30pm on both Saturdays.
Tickets start at £18.50, with concessions available.
