ANNETTE BAKER has been appointed head teacher of Ramsey Grammar School. She takes up the role in January. Annette is currently deputy head teacher at Ballakermeen, where she has worked for 30 years. She is married with four grown up children.
What is your idea of a perfect meal?
Steak, salad and a glass of Pinot Noir with good friends.
What is your favourite way to relax?
Singing at the top of my voice, headphones on, whilst cooking dinner on a Friday night or at the weekend.
What is your greatest extravagance?
Buying tickets to musical or sporting events – my husband and I are going to see Fleetwood Mac next June, and we have tickets to the Rugby World Cup final next October. We were lucky enough to see Kate Bush in September, though the tickets were bought for us by the family, so don’t count as being extravagant!
Do you have any pets?
One day I will have a Cairn terrier – we used to have one when I was little.
What is your greatest achievement?
Professionally, becoming head teacher of Ramsey Grammar School. Personally, having four wonderful children - Adam, Phil, Mike and step-daughter Nicola.
What is your favourite time of the year?
Like everyone, I love Christmas, but my favourite time of year is spring – new beginnings!
What is your favourite book?
Anything by Robert Harris.
What is the first job you ever had?
My parents moved to the Isle of Man in 1973 and ran a guest house business. My dad is a wonderful baker/confectioner, and my mum was brilliant at front-of-house. My first job was working for them as a dish washer.
What is your worst habit?
Sigh. Facebook stalking my children. My son Adam has recently emigrated with his wife to America, youngest son Mike is training to be a teacher in Chelmsford, Nicola is in Nuneaton and Phil works here as an accountant. I just like to know what they are up to and that they are all OK.
Do you have any irrational fears?
I detest snakes. I would never survive in the celebrity jungle.
What is your favourite TV programme?
At the moment it’s Gogglebox, though in a male dominated household I rarely get near the remote control.
What is your favourite band/artist at the moment?
Take That are always my favourite band, but I can’t wait to see Fleetwood Mac.
What is your favourite part of the Isle of Man?
Ramsey, of course!
What is the last show/band that you saw live?
We Will Rock You at Ballakermeen – fantastic.
If time/money were no object, what would be your perfect day?
Because we all live so far apart, a perfect day would be a family reunion, anytime, anywhere.
Choose three people, dead or alive, to invite to dinner?
Gary Barlow, Dawn French and Davy Knowles!
Which do you prefer? Harry Potter or Lord of the Rings? Harry Potter.
Cats or dogs? Cats (though I still want a Cairn terrier eventually!).
Birthday or Christmas? Christmas.
Starter or pudding? Starter.
Quiet night in or night out? Quiet night in, though not sure about the quiet bit!
