KINGS of Lyon will play two gigs in the island this summer and tickets are selling quick.

Described as ‘the number one tribute’ to award-winning US rock band Kings of Leon, this UK group will head to Port St Mary town hall on Saturday, July 27, and then the Villa Marina Promenade Suite in Douglas the following night.

The act exploded onto the scene at the beginning of 2009 and have been propelled to the top of the tribute ladder with panache and a youthful vibrancy that secured them an O2 Academy headline tour, a European spring tour, a string of festival dates throughout Europe.

Having gained a massive British following, they have performed at sell-out shows in all the best music venues.

Their website claims they are ‘widely known as the best: the most accurate and vibrant tribute to the Kings of Leon’.

Indeed they have received some rave reviews. In 2010, Q Magazine wrote ‘Spot on - Five Stars’.

The year before that, the Belfast Empire described them as ‘four extremely talented musicians playing the best from Youth and Young Manhood to Only By The Night as only the Kings themselves could and Stage magazine reported ‘The Kings of Lyon are the number 1 tribute to the Kings’.

Their live set incorporates all the fan’s favourites including Radioactive, Fans, Use Somebody, On Call and of course the UK number one single Sex on Fire.

2010 saw the band rise from a fine tribute with a hugely well-respected emerging reputation to become the most sought after tribute of the year. They are known to be perfectly faithful to the real Kings in every aspect from an inseparable appearance to their soaring sound.

Mark Armstrong of Talismann Promotions is bringing the lads over to the island.

He said: ‘This is not just a tribute to Kings Of Leon ... it’s THE tribute. How many tribute bands have secured an O2 Academy headline tour – a privilege normally reserved only for original bands? They’re that good.

‘I saw them perform last month in Belfast and they had the place screaming. So it’s not just word of mouth stuff.’

Standing tickets at both gigs are £20. Tickets for the Port St Mary night are available from Peter Norris Music in Douglas, Thompson Travel in Port Erin and Quine & Cubbon Printers in Port St Mary or by calling Mark on 498789.

For Villa tickets call the box office on 600555.

• Next month Talismann Promotions will host an Irish Weekend, sponsored by the Isle of Man Arts Council, with Kelly’s Cellars sessions taking place at The Mitre in Ramsey on Friday, March 8, and in Port St Mary town hall the following night. Tickets sales as above.
