Manx Festival Chorus performs Stainer’s oratorio ‘The Crucifixion’.

Last performed by the Chorus in 1992, John Bethell will conduct the performance on April 16, at 8pm, in the Royal Chapel at St John’s with soloists Bill Creer (tenor) Jonathan King (bass) with David Christian and Neil Taverner (baritones) and organist Gareth Moore. The chorus will be joined by Meadowside Choral Society.

John Stainer (1840 -1901) was an outstanding example of a musician whose accomplishments as a composer were rooted in a solid foundation of musical knowledge acquired during a lifetime in which he held numerous professional posts.

‘The Crucifixion’ is still his best known composition and is performed during Holy Week giving a chance for the audience and chorus to reflect on the suffering of Jesus Christ.

Tickets, £10, from Chorus members, the Erin Arts Centre or at the door.
