THE Villa Marina Arcade and gardens is playing host to another Brass Band Season, which began on Tuesday, May 3, with Castletown Metropolitan Silver Band.
The season is a popular annual feature of the Isle of Man Arts Council’s programme of events, providing an opportunity for the brass bands of the island to play regularly throughout the summer in the grounds of the Villa Marina.
All of the island’s brass bands will perform during the season.
Concerts take place on Tuesday and Thursday evenings at 8pm in the arcade and on Sunday afternoons at 3pm in the gardens if the weather is fine.
In the event of bad weather Sunday concerts will move to the Villa Marina Arcade.
This year the season runs until the middle of August.
Admission is free, although the performing band may take a collection.
Arts Council chairman Quintin Gill MHK said: ‘The Arts Council is very proud of the Brass Band Season which goes from strength to strength.
‘Bands often play to full audiences and provide popular, well loved music free of charge and in a beautiful setting.
He added: ‘Many of our brass bands are award winners and have many young members, for whom it is a vital training ground.
‘The Arts Council is delighted to support this showcase for our talented brass musicians.’
