A popular set of walking books is being re-issued by the Manx Footpaths Conservation Group.

The four books are entitled ‘Manx Hill Walks’, ‘Short Walks Southern Section’, ‘Short Walks Northern Section’ and ‘Holiday Walks in the Isle of Man’.

To mark the occasion of the new publication, a book signing will be held on Saturday, August 30, 11am to 12, at the Lexicon bookshop in Douglas, with president of the Manx Footpaths Conservation Group, Stan Woollock OBE AFC signing the books.

‘Manx Hill Walks’ was first published in 1973 and following its success the other walking guides were produced.

Over the intervening years the booklets have been subject to various re-prints and revisions to reflect the changing nature of the countryside and proved an invaluable introduction to visitors and residents alike, in exploring the attractions of the Manx countryside.

Following an extensive revision process, the Manx Footpaths Conservation Group has reprinted and published all four books, which incorporate various improvements and enhanced features.

Each book contains various walks with corresponding maps and map references, directions and photographs pertaining to each individual walk.

The books are designed specifically to fit inside a map case, which can be worn whilst walking. The route of each walk is superimposed onto the maps, therefore making it easier to follow the written text.

The Manx Footpaths Conservation Group thanked the mapping division of the Isle of Man government who produced the maps.

The books are on sale at various outlets around the Island at a cost of £4.95 each.

They will also be available on line through Lily Publications, and through the website: www.manxfootpaths.org
