TUESDAY, AUGUST 17, 2010 13:34: My name is Paul Dyson and I am researching into former members of Bolton Church Institute School (now Canon Slade School, Bolton, Lancashire) who served in World War 1, with a view to setting up a War memorial and Commemorative Folder. The names of three Kniveton brothers appear in the old registers, of whom I have discovered from online sources that Clifford served and was decorated, and that Arthur probably served. If any members of the Kniveton family would be kind enough to supply me with additional details to complete the picture, I and the school would be most grateful. My e-mail is paul(at)dyson151.plus.com.

TUESDAY, JULY 6, 2010 22:39: Charles Henry Edwards was born in Sandbach Cheshire in 1886. He was married and had 2 children in 1911 but left around 1920. He then married again in 1933 in Preston and had another 2 children. Through family research the half brother and sisters have recently met aged 99, 73 and 69. There is a gap of 13 years and possibly another family in his life. Charles Henry had connections in the Isle of Man throughout his life. He is known to have worked for Sir John Fry Goldie Taubman at the Nunnery (as a butler we believe), at the House of Industry and at the Sefton Hotel, Douglas. He was educated at Public school so was well connected but worked in hotels etc for little pay. If anyone knew him or knew of him please get in touch. loisbest77(at)hotmail.com Thanks

TUESDAY, MAY 04, 2010 13:42 Hello there,
In the late 60's I had a good friend called Elizabeth Yates, and we both worked together at the Premium Bond office in St.Annes.
During that time, I was going out with an Airline Pilot, and when Elizabeth was in hospital in Lytham, I took her some "Tulips from Amsterdam". Elizabeth and her husband David, left the mainland and moved to the Isle of Man, and initially lived with David's sister and family at Santon.I visited them once, and the lovely beach and sea at the bottom of the garden was amazing. Unfortunately I lost touch with Elizabeth, and whenever we come to the Island, I wish we could meet up for a drink and chat about the good old days. We have visited every couple of years and on one occasion, I was sure I saw her driving a mini from Santon to Douglas. As the road was busy we could not turn round to follow, and she was gone. We are coming over to stay in Douglas from 23/8 to 26/8 and if anyone knows where Elizabeth Yates is now, it would make our mini break perfect if we could meet up. My telephone number is 01253 691316, the E-Mail address is leshayes(at)talktalk.net. Please try and help

THURSDAY, JANUARY 21, 2010 13:20: I am a descendant of John Chesterman & Sophia Christian. John I believe originally came from Berkshire. He was born in approx 1793. He met and married Sophia Christian on the Isle of Man and I have history since this time. My problem is trying to find where he actually came from originally. He could have changed his name as some army records show a Thomas Chesterman? He was chief constable in Castletown IOM and died in Castle Rushen debtors jail. Does anyone have any positive information on why he moved to IOM and where he was originally from. Also does anyone know exactly where he is buried and if the grave is marked. I would like to visit IOM sometime this year to try to fin out more.
Thank you,

WEDNESDAY, DECEMBER 09, 2009 10:55: I'm trying to trace my great grandmother 'Eleanor Crowe'. We believe she was working in service in NW England and got pregnant. After giving birth in 1905 (to my grandmother) on the Wirral she then returned back to the Isle of Man where she was from. The baby was put up for adoption and came with a large sum of money (presumably from the father or Eleanor herself). We think she was around 16 in 1905, so would have been born around 1889, although we cannot be sure. Unfortunately we have never been able to trace Eleanor. If anyone knows anything please contact me at ljnevinuk@gmail.com

THURSDAY, DECEMBER 12, 2009 21:52: Hello, My family name is Mylchreest and I would like to know how my great Grandfather was kicked out of his family in Castletown and came to live in Manchester. Unfortunately, I don't know is name any any surviving relatives in Manchester who may have had the story passed down through the generations, have long since passed away. The bits of the tale I have are as follows; My Father, Henry or Harry as he was known, was one of 7 children born of Jack and Charlotte Mylchreest who lived in Queen St, Droylsden, Manchester, and was born in April 1909. Dads Father, Jack or John as he was christened, was a son of xx Mylchreest who lived most of his life in Hulme, Manchester after he was 'excomuninicated' by the Castletown Mylchreest's. I have a feeling that he may have been christened William Mylchreest and I had been told by my Father before he died that he regularly received a sum of money from Castletown which enabled him to pack in his bricklaying for 6 months, and enjoy the pleasures of the fine Mancunian Ales. Once the money ran out, he would go back to bricklaying until the next check came through. I am assuming that there still are Mylchreest's in Castletown and if by chance anyone in the family is interested in uprooting the family tree on your side of the water, I will be able to add most of the details from 1909 onwards. Yours in anticipation,
JOHN ANDREW MYLCHREEST

WEDNESDAY, NOVEMBER 18, 2009 12:20: Dear All, I am looking for any help trying to find family member's or descendents of Arthur Maurice Crowe. His parents where born on the Isle of Man and were Frederick Crowe (c. 1872) and Eleanor Margaret Kelly (c. 1874)
Their other children were Kenneth Hardie (c. 1899) - Jean Isabel (c. 1902) and Winifred Margaret (c. 1898) who along with Arthur Maurice where all born in Bolton, Lancashire. But I believe some family members moved back to the Isle of Man, including Arthur's parents whom are buried in Bride Church cemetery. I am seeking this information for a friend in England who has Manx family descendents and would really appreciated any help on Arthur Maurice, as after the 1911 U.K. census he seems to have disappeared. My email address is: denniscox88@hotmail.com

MONDAY, NOVEMBER 16, 2009 21:22: Hello, I'm trying to find my relatives in the Douglas area. We lost contact fifteen years ago and have not seen each other for twenty nine years, when I was last on the Isle of Man. The family name is Quayle, and they lived on two farms within twenty miles of Douglas. The first farm was on the coast and 100-150 acres. The second was inland, a dairy farm that produced and delivered milk daily to the local area. Mary Quayle, nee Walmsley, was my grandmother's cousin. I visited the family with my grandmother when I was eleven years old in 1980, possibly 1979. This was a wonderful trip during which I became acquainted, for the first time, with my distant cousins. I especially remember Elizabeth who was about my age, maybe slightly older. I was born in April 1969 and grew up, till 1978, in South Africa. So Elizabeth, the middle of three sisters, would now be in her early forties. It has always been my wish to return to these beautiful farms, countryside, coastline and to become reacquainted with my distant cousins. I remember that there were very few hedges dividing the fields of the coastal farm, rather ancient dry-stone walls built over generations with coquille shells. It was a magical wind swept place, stepped in and evocative of other times. Is there any way you can point me in the right direction as to how to find my relatives? I shall be very pleased for any advice you can offer. Thank you in advance.

I haven't seen Ann since 1963 in the London area and wondered if anyone can let me have her contact details or knows of her whereabouts. Please call me on 07968776605. Many thanks.

SUNDAY, APRIL 19, 2009 13:34: On October 16th, 2008 Gwen asked about Greeba Castle and "Lord Cain". "Anon" answered her query by saying that Hall Cain (sic) built the castle himself. This is not correct, Sir Hall Caine rented the property in 1893 and some years later in 1896, he bought it. See Vivien Allen's biography on Hall Caine or look at Wikipedia for verification of these facts. Yours,

My February 18 enquiry also asked questions about others in our group of friends which, besides Alan and Jimmy, included Donald Gellion, Jean Crebbin and Jean Kelly, and another Jean all from Port St. Mary. Most of us attended Douglas High School for boys in the early and mid 1940s. I would like to find information about these friends since I think about the good old days and would like to contact them just to say hello and perhaps write once in a while. TUESDAY, FEBRUARY 24, 2009 19:07: I wonder if anyone could help me trace someone who I knew as a child when I holidayed in Douglas, in the late 1950's. Her name was Marcia and her parents ran a guest house where we frequently stayed. She had one or two older brothers. I have no idea of the address of the guest house but I have looked at the approximate location on Google Earth and it could have been in Ballaquale Road. I was looking through old family photographs of Douglas ,some of those photographs included Marcia. Although we were very young, I still remember those holidays as the happiest of times. I am unable to recall her surname and address but you may be able to help me make contact. Thank you
