Micro-pub fans, rejoice!
Less than six weeks after calling last orders for what we thought was the final time, The Miller’s T’Ale in Peel is set to reopen this Saturday (November 8).
That’s right, the beloved micro-pub on Michael Street, which shut its doors on September 30 after five years of pulling perfect pints, is already making a comeback.
Shortest pub closure ever? Quite possibly.
About a month ago, Gef reported the sad news that owners Charles and Ann Miller were calling time on their award-winning venture, citing 'difficult trading conditions' as the main reason behind the decision.
At the time, they thanked their loyal customers for 'the good times and great times' they’d shared over the years, admitting that rising energy costs, stock prices and a steady decline in trade had forced their hand.
It was a real blow for Peel’s pub scene, especially coming so soon after The Central on Castle Street also closed.
For many, The Miller’s wasn’t just a pub; it was a community in a glass. A cosy hideaway where locals and visitors could enjoy proper beer, cider, and good chat away from the bustle of the bigger bars.
But just when it seemed like another little piece of Peel had gone for good, Charles got back in touch with Gef, and the news is better than a freshly poured pint on a Friday evening.
'Miller Inns Limited has decided to reopen The Miller’s T’Ale with effect from Saturday 8th November,' Charles said.
Since closing, the pair have re-evaluated the business model and made some big changes.
'We’ve taken a long, hard look at the finances and costs,' Charles explained.
The pub will now open Thursday to Sunday, with extra days during TT, MGP, public holidays or special events.
The new approach will also see Charles running the bar himself, with what he describes as 'wifely support in the background'.
As for what drinkers can expect on Saturday’s reopening, it’ll depend on whether new beers from the UK arrive and are conditioned in time, but Charles is hopeful they’ll be ready to pour.
So there you have it, a Peel pub resurrection story.
After what might just be the briefest closure in Manx pub history, The Miller’s T’Ale is back, leaner, stronger, and still serving up some of the best pints in the west.
We’ll drink to that.
