Manx Care says ambulance cover in the south of the island will be maintained following last night’s blaze at Castletown and Malew Fire and Ambulance Station.
A temporary ambulancebase has been set up at the nearby Castletown coastguard station.
Fire chiefs are counting the cost of the major blaze at the retained fire station on the Ronaldsway industrial estate which broke out in the appliance room at around 5pm yesterday (Thursday).
Two fire trucks were badly damaged in the blaze - and at least one is likely to be a write-off.
The £1.45m combined fire and ambulance station only opened in 2017.
A spokesperson for Manx Care said: ‘The Isle of Man Ambulance Service would like to reassure the public that ambulance cover in the south of the island was maintained throughout the incident and will continue to be maintained in the coming days and weeks.
‘We have invoked our business continuity plan and have established a temporary ambulance station at Castletown coastguard station, which is in close proximity to our current site.
‘This will ensure the continued delivery of emergency medical services to the community within the south of the island.
‘The Isle of Man Ambulance Service would like to thank all emergency responders and partner agencies for their assistance and support during the incident.’
