There were emotional scenes in court as a jury found a 16-year-old boy guilty of murdering Christopher McBurnie.
The verdict was greeted with clapping, muted cheers and sobbing from the public gallery after jurors spent six and a half hours deliberating.
Christopher, 14, was fatally stabbed in Ramsey on May 29, 2025.
The defendant, who cannot be named for legal reasons, admitted inflicting the fatal wound but denied murder, claiming he had acted in self-defence.
Following almost four weeks of evidence, the jury rejected his defence and returned a guilty verdict.
The teenager faces a life sentence, with Deemster Graeme Cook required to determine the minimum term he must serve before he can be considered for release.
Sentencing is expected to take place early next year, with a youth offending report and medical and psychiatric reports required beforehand.
Following the verdict, Deemster Cook thanked the jurors for their work during the trial.
He told them: ‘You will not have come across anything like this before.
‘It must have been a difficult experience for you hearing the evidence and deliberating.
‘We are very grateful for you doing your public duty.
‘Without you we could not do our professional duty.
‘Thank you for your perseverance, patience and deliberation.’
The jury's verdict brings the trial to a close, although the defendant must return to court to be sentenced.
