An R-plate driver who was initially allowed to keep his licence has now had it revoked.

Liam Thomas Holland, aged 29, of May Hill, Ramsey, was spared a ban on July 30, after his advocate Ian Kermode argued it would cause him exceptional hardship.

This came after Holland had admitted driving twice without displaying R plates, and magistrates had issued him with three points for each offence, which would normally result in a licence revocation for an R plate driver who has reached six points.

However, last month, a court heard that an error had been made in the sentence, because under the Road Traffic Act, the exceptional circumstances argument could not be applied to R plate offences.

Magistrates therefore revoked Holland’s licence.
