A motorist whose car rolled into a tree when he left the handbrake off has been fined £120.

Twenty-three-year-old Finlay Peter Corkhill also had his licence endorsed with three points and must pay £50 prosecution costs, after pleading guilty to quitting a vehicle and failing to set the handbrake.

The court heard that police were called to Oakhill Court in Douglas on January 30, at 10pm.

A Ford Transit van had rolled from its parking space into a tree, causing substantial front end damage to the vehicle.

Corkhill, of Eskdale Road, Onchan, was present and told officers he’d left the handbrake off.

He was initially given a fixed penalty notice but failed to pay it, saying in court that he had lost the paperwork.
