Charges against a Walsall man, of smuggling class A drugs to the island, have been dismissed.

Deepan Goel, aged 39, of Abbington Way, had previously pleaded not guilty to two counts of the offence.

Mr Goel was arrested on July 1, with two other males, after police seized 85.53 grams of drugs from a car arriving on the ferry from Heysham.

They were later identified as poppy straw and opium.

On June 16, the court heard that the prosecution was offering no evidence in relation to Mr Goel’s charges.

He was represented in court by advocate Kaitlyn Shimmin, who said her client had paid for his own expert report.

Legal fees of £3,310 and report costs of £2,542 were awarded.
