A 62-year-old Douglas man has been fined £300 for making nuisance 999 calls and being drunk in public.

Christopher McEvoy, of Peel Road, must also pay £125 prosecution costs.

The calls were made between June 24 and 27.

McEvoy claimed that he called because police had his phone, which held his contacts, and he needed it as his mother was ill.

He said he’d called again asking to be put through to the Crisis Team.

On July 8, he was arrested at The Tongue on Douglas Quay for being drunk in public.

A probation report said McEvoy said he wouldn’t reduce his alcohol consumption, was unfit for community service, and didn’t want to work with probation.

He’ll pay at a rate of £10 per week, deducted from benefits.
