A 59-year-old Douglas man has been fined £600 for obstructing police in Anagh Coar.

Paul Kelly, of Darragh Passage, admitted the offence, but said he was doing so ‘under duress’.

The court heard that police were called to the Heron pub car park on August 8.

Kelly was said to have grabbed an officer while he was arresting another male and tried to pull him away.

He was warned but continued to interfere, which resulted in him being Pava sprayed.

Defence advocate John Wright said footage of the incident showed Kelly and his son being set upon by six others.

Kelly said he was dazed and hadn’t recognised the police at first, believing they were attacking his son.

He must also pay £125 prosecution costs.
