A 32-year-old man has been fined £150 for being drunk in public.

Anthony James Scaddan, of Clagh Vane, Ballasalla, was also ordered to pay £125 prosecution costs.

Magistrates heard that the defendant was in a group of people in Douglas on November 19, at 1.35pm.

He was seen by police, stumbling across the road at Victoria Street in front of traffic.

He was then seen stumbling in front of traffic again at Lord Street, and unable to stand straight.

Scaddan was arrested and said: ‘Of course I was drunk. I left the Albert and you were waiting for me.

‘Of course I have slurred speech you mong.’

He will pay at a rate of £10 per week, deducted from benefits.
