A day of Manx music, traditional crafts and family activities is being organised in Peel to coincide with the town's Christmas lights switch-on this month.
The Festive Manx Day Out in Peel on Saturday, November 28 is being organised by Culture Vannin and Isle Listen in partnership with Peel Commissioners.
The event forms part of Culture Vannin's 'Day Out In' series and will celebrate the Year of the Manx Language in the run-up to Christmas.
Activities will take place at venues across the town and include Manx musical performances, traditional craft-making sessions and family photography opportunities.
Speaking of the event, organiser Year of the Manx Language coordinator at Culture Vannin, Tiffany Kerruish said: ‘We are delighted to be working with Isle Listen and Peel Commissioners to bring a special Manx cultural theme to the start of Christmas festivities in Peel this year.
‘Expect lots of lively fun activities and performances for all the family and a chance to learn some festive Manx words and phrases - we will even be counting down to the lights coming on in Manx this year which will be a yindyssagh (wonderful) moment for the Year of the Manx Language.’
Jess Knight, events and community fundraising manager at Isle Listen added: ‘It’s been lovely to see this event come together, especially as our collaboration with Culture Vannin actually came about completely by chance.
‘Both Isle Listen and Culture Vannin were planning very similar events in Peel over the festive season, so when we realised, it made sense to join forces.
‘It’s a great example of what can happen when local charities work together, sharing ideas and resources to create something. We’re excited to bring a programme of entertainment and activities to Peel, and hopefully make this the start of something we can build on in future years.’
Ray Harmer from Peel Commissioner commented: ‘We are delighted to be working with Culture Vannin and Isle Listen to bring the Festive Manx Day out to Peel.
‘Peel is charming at all times of year but Christmas is a great time to celebrate our Manx traditions and culture. We’re looking forward to the town coming alive with festive spirit.’
Visitors will be able to see a children's Christmas card exhibition and take part in a lantern parade leading to the Christmas lights switch-on in Market Square.
Those wishing to join the parade with their own lantern are being invited to attend a free willow lantern-making workshop on November 14.
The workshop will take place at Peel Masonic Hall from 10am to 4pm.
