Two electronic artists from Manchester will bring a night of dance music to the Isle of Man next month.

NTS Radio DJ and producer Ruf Dug and live electronic artist Sarah Bates will perform at the Isle of Man Yacht Club in Port St Mary on Saturday, September 12, from 7pm to 11pm.

The event is being organised by independent Isle of Man promoter Waves of Wonder in collaboration with RESTLE, offering a more dancefloor-focused evening than the promoter’s usual programme of live music.

Ruf Dug, who will headline, is known for eclectic DJ sets spanning Balearic music, house, street soul, boogie and dub. The Manchester-based artist has performed at venues and festivals including Ibiza’s Pikes, Berlin’s Panorama Bar, Glastonbury and Burning Man.

He will also bring his bespoke audiophile sound system to the island.

Joining him will be Sarah Bates, described as Manchester’s ‘Synth Queen’. She will perform a live hardware set combining dreamlike electronica, Balearic textures and cosmic dance music.

The line-up will also feature GP Industries, a new local electronic music project.

Cornelia from Waves of Wonder said: ‘It’s a bit more dancefloor-focused than our previous shows and should be a really fun one.’

The event forms part of the promoter’s programme of shows, which aims to bring adventurous and distinctive live music to the Isle of Man.

Continuing Cornelia said: ‘We want people to come along, hear something they might not have heard before, meet people and hopefully leave feeling like they’ve discovered something. You don’t need to know Ruf Dug or Sarah Bates, or know anything about electronic music, to come and enjoy it.

‘That’s quite important to me. Some of the best musical experiences I’ve had have been when I’ve walked into something not really knowing what to expect and come away completely inspired. I’d love for a few people to have that feeling on the night.’

Cornelia believes that people shouldn’t have to travel away to be able to immerse themselves in interesting music and culture.

She said: ‘There’s so much brilliant talent here already, but bringing visiting artists into that mix gives us a connection to what’s happening elsewhere and creates opportunities for local artists and audiences to be part of that exchange.

‘It’s also about making the island an interesting place for artists to come to. I love the idea of someone like Ruf Dug, who has played everywhere from Ibiza and Berlin to Glastonbury and Burning Man, coming to play in a little yacht club in Port St Mary.

‘There’s something really special about that.

‘And hopefully, the more we can make things like this work, the easier it becomes to bring more artists here in the future and to show that there is an audience on the Isle of Man that’s curious and wants these experiences.’

Tickets cost £10 in advance and £15 on the door, with organisers encouraging attendees to book ahead through the Waves of Wonder website.
