Talbot & Son, the Isle of Man's longest-established blind manufacturer and supplier, has been serving homes and businesses across the island since 1976.

Now led by the third generation of the Talbot family, the company is marking five decades in business with a special anniversary open day in September.

The business was founded by Bob Talbot who was later joined by his son, Andy and Andy’s Brother-in-Law, Ian Large.

Since taking over ownership of the firm in 2024, siblings Kirsty and Simon Talbot have continued the family tradition while investing in the latest technology and expanding the company's range of products and services.

Kirsty said: ‘Reaching 50 years is something we're incredibly proud of. It's a reflection of the support we've received from generations of customers, the loyalty of our staff and the values our grandad built the business on.

‘Being able to continue the business as the third generation of our family is a real privilege, and we're committed to making sure it continues to thrive for many years to come.’

From its beginnings manufacturing traditional blinds, Talbot & Son has evolved alongside changing technology and customer expectations. As well as blinds, curtains and shutters, the company now supplies automated shading systems that can integrate with smart home technology and help improve comfort and energy efficiency.

Simon Talbot has led much of the company's investment in automation and believes modern window shading has become an increasingly important part of the home.

‘People are often surprised by what today's systems can do,’ he said. ‘Blinds are no longer just a finishing touch. They can help regulate room temperature, improve energy efficiency and work seamlessly with other smart home technology.’

Despite embracing innovation, the family says the company's greatest strength remains its local service and experienced team.

Several members of Talbot & Son's eight-strong workforce have spent decades with the business, building long-standing relationships with customers across the Island.

‘We've always believed that good service is just as important as the products we sell,’ Kirsty added. ‘Many of our customers have returned to us over the years and recommended us to family and friends, and that's something we're incredibly grateful for.’

To celebrate the milestone, Talbot & Son will host a 50th anniversary open day at its Union Mills showroom this Saturday (September 5), from 10am to 4pm.
