The Halloween Scare Maze at South Barrule Forest Park is set to return this month, following a financial setback that left its organisers around £50,000 out of pocket last year.
The event, run by local business owner Carl Underwood, will take place on October 26, 28 and 29, with organisers confirming they are using a new online ticketing provider following the collapse of their previous supplier.
Mr Underwood, who operates Laser Mayhem, Quad Bike Mania and Coffee Cottage at South Barrule, previously said that he had suffered significant financial losses after WebTicketManager went into liquidation.
He estimated that more than £30,000 in ticket revenue had gone missing, with the overall shortfall rising to around £50,000 when staffing costs and other commitments were included.
After using WebTicketManager for seven years, the company stopped receiving payments in late September, and Mr Underwood subsequently discovered that the ticketing firm had entered liquidation on November 17.
The financial impact forced the cancellation of the popular Santa’s Grotto at Candy Cane Lane last Christmas.
In an announcement confirming the scare maze's return, the organisers said they had switched to a new ticketing company and were focused on delivering this year's event.
‘Despite this difficult experience, our enthusiasm for creating unforgettable events has returned stronger than ever,’ a spokesperson said.
‘This year, we’re working with a new ticketing company and are fully focused on delivering yet another fantastic Halloween event.
‘From the moment you enter the Halloween Scare Maze, expect terrifying surprises, plenty of screams and an experience designed to test your courage. We’ve worked hard to make this year’s event bigger, better and more exciting than ever.’
