Lighting is being installed on the former railway line between Gardener’s Lane and Poyll Dooey Road in Ramsey.
The low-level lighting will run along the length of the path and it is hoped will encourage year-round early morning, evening and night time use of the path.
In addition to the 40, 1.5 metre light posts, like the one pictured above, there are five full size poles being installed.
These poles are not to support lights, but will carry the detectors that will activate them when triggered by pedestrian or cycle movement during the hours of darkness.
The Department of Infrastructure has said this will ensure that the environmental impact is kept to a minimum and light intrusion into pathside properties will not be an issue.
The path, which was resurfaced last summer, has been designated a shared pedestrian and cycle route and has already proved popular with residents in the town.
It will remain accessible at all times whilst this work is underway. It is anticipated that lighting installation will be completed by mid-February.
