The Isle of Man is preparing for unsettled weather as two named storms approach, with heavy rain expected today (Friday) and severe gales forecast over the weekend.
The Isle of Man Met Office has issued a 12-hour yellow weather warning for Friday, October 23, covering the whole island.
The warning will be in force from 3am until 3pm, with persistent and heavy rain expected to bring the risk of localised flooding.
Storm Austen is expected to bring Friday’s wet and windy conditions, while Storm Boelo is forecast to affect the island over the weekend.
The Met Office said: ‘The rain will become persistent and heavy tonight, before gradually easing and petering out later tomorrow morning and early afternoon.’
Rainfall totals are expected to reach between 15mm and 30mm, with a risk of localised flooding, particularly where drains are blocked.
Yellow weather warnings indicate the possibility of disruption, including travel delays, minor damage and temporary interruptions to services.
However, the Met Office has also confirmed that an amber weather warning is expected to be issued for the weekend as Storm Boelo approaches.
The worst conditions are forecast during the early hours of Sunday, October 25, when severe gales could bring gusts of up to 70mph.
Amber warnings indicate a greater risk of severe weather, with potential impacts on travel, schools and workplaces, alongside possible damage and a risk of injury.
Winds are forecast to ease during Sunday afternoon, with mostly sunny conditions expected despite the blustery weather.
