Sheep and cattle have been killed in another dog attack in the north of the island, according to the Manx National Farmers' Union (MNFU).

The union said two dogs, described as medium to large in size, were left roaming freely before attacking livestock in the Narradale area of Lezayre last night.

It said the dogs were black and brown and claimed they had been involved in previous attacks in the area.

According to the MNFU, this is the fourth time the same pair of dogs have been known to attack sheep in the area.

The union said police were aware of the problem and urged anyone who sees the dogs roaming loose to report them to the Isle of Man Constabulary.

It also encouraged people to film the animals if they see them unattended, to help provide evidence.

In a strongly worded statement, the MNFU expressed frustration at what it described as a lack of action over the repeated incidents.

It claimed the dogs' owner was aware of their behaviour but that no action had been taken to prevent further attacks.

It shared a graphic picture of one sheep’s injuries.

The union also criticised the Department of Environment, Food and Agriculture (DEFA), saying it had not progressed updated livestock-worrying legislation which it believes could help prevent further incidents and assist police in gathering evidence.

It comes as MNFU and the DEFA minister met only days ago to discuss issues within farming.

The latest incident adds to ongoing concerns among farmers about the impact of dogs being allowed to roam freely around livestock.

The MNFU urged dog owners to keep their animals under control and called for action to prevent further suffering and losses.

Isle of Man Today has contacted DEFA for response.
