A 24-year-old filmmaker from Douglas is bringing a powerful story of resilience, friendship and purpose to an international audience.

Aaron Fitzmaurice, a former St Ninian’s High School pupil who continued his studies at University College Isle of Man, began his career with Greenlight Television before leaving the island to pursue opportunities in the wider film and television industry.

Since then, he has directed chart-topping music videos and worked with some of the UK’s biggest YouTube creators.

His latest project has seen him direct and film a Netflix documentary featuring Manchester rapper Aitch, who recently appeared on ITV’s ‘I’m a Celebrity… Get Me Out of Here!’

The documentary follows the pair as they attempt to climb Mount Kilimanjaro, raising money and awareness for the Down’s Syndrome Association.

It’s a condition very close to the heart of the musician, as his younger sister Gracie was born with Down Syndrome.

But for Aaron, the expedition also carried particular personal significance. Just two months before the climb, a member of his family died while attempting the same challenge.

Determined to honour their memory, he approached the expedition with renewed purpose, turning personal loss into motivation to complete the climb and support a cause close to many people’s hearts.

Despite the considerable physical and mental demands of the challenge, Aaron and Aitch reached the summit. Their efforts helped raise £170,000 for the Down’s Syndrome Association.

Reflecting on the experience, Aaron described it as ‘surreal’.

His career has taken him from growing up in Douglas to travelling the world and working alongside some of the entertainment industry’s best-known names.

But Aaron remains extremely proud of his Manx roots, and his success demonstrates that growing up on a small island need not stand in the way of achieving ambitions on an international scale.
