The Manx Museum has been the most visited site operated by Manx National Heritage over the past three years, according to figures released under a Freedom of Information request.

The figures, covering the three full financial years 2023/24, 2024/25 and 2025/26, show there were 725,540 visits to Manx National Heritage sites during the period.

The free-to-enter museum in Douglas recorded 220,508 visits since 2023, including 25,637 up to the end of July this year.

Peel’s House of Manannan was the second most visited attraction, recording 150,891 visitors over the same period.

In Castletown, Castle Rushen, the Old House of Keys and the Old Grammar School collectively recorded 117,580 visits.

The Great Laxey Wheel was the only other Manx National Heritage site to attract more than 100,000 visitors, with 110,402 visits recorded over the three years.

In its response, a spokesperson for MNH said: ‘The majority of MNH visitor attractions operate on a seasonal basis, normally between April and October.

‘The exceptions to this are the Manx Museum and the House of Manannan which are open all year round.

‘Additionally, some sites may open for occasional days only for specific events during the winter months.’

Manx National Heritage said the seasonal opening of most attractions should be taken into account when looking at the figures.

The Manx Museum and House of Manannan remain open throughout the year, while some other sites may open on occasional days for specific events during the winter months.

The organisation also said it had introduced beam counters at the House of Manannan, improving the way visitor footfall is recorded at the Peel attraction.
