Holidaymakers flying directly from the Isle of Man to Tenerife can now use free high-speed satellite Wi-Fi following the arrival of a new charter airline.

AirBaltic has begun operating the route for C. I. Travel Group, using an Airbus A220-300 equipped with SpaceX Starlink internet, allowing passengers to stream films and access online services during flights.

The first service departed the island on Monday morning following a weekend of weather disruption, marking the aircraft type's debut on the Tenerife route.

Weekly return flights are scheduled for Sundays during selected holiday periods, covering half-term, Christmas through to the end of February, and the Easter school holidays.

The appointment of airBaltic marks a change in charter partner for C. I. Travel Group, which has offered direct flights from the island to European holiday destinations for six years.

Alexander Devlin, C. I. Travel Group's director, said the partnership would improve the experience for passengers travelling without a connecting flight.

He said: ‘For Isle of Man residents who have long appreciated the convenience of direct flights, we are confident that this new partnership with airBaltic will further enhance the standards of service and comfort that FlyDirect clients have come to expect.

‘With the added benefit of airBaltic’s free Starlink Wi-Fi, you can stream and watch your favourite movies at 35,000 feet.

‘Direct flights also reduce the cost and time involved in reaching your destination, without the added risk of missing a connection.’

AirBaltic became the first European airline to offer free, high-speed Starlink Wi-Fi across its flights.

The system uses satellites to deliver internet connectivity while aircraft are in the air.

The Airbus A220-300 is designed for short- and medium-haul services and will operate the Tenerife route during the specified holiday periods.
