An internal government inquiry has been launched into how a story about a Minister’s attempt to oust her department’s chief executive was leaked to the media.

Last month, the Isle of Man Examiner revealed that Rob Callister had resigned from the Department of Health and Social Care following personal differences between Minister Beecroft and her department’s chief executive Malcolm Couch.

Matters came to a head when she asked the political members to sign a letter relating to Dr Couch’s continued position. This was essentially a vote of no confidence in the chief executive.

Mr Callister was one of those who refused to sign the letter, and subsequently resigned.

Now the Public Services Commission has launched an inquiry into how the story was leaked.

It has appointed advocate Paul Morris to lead the investigation. Even Chief Minister Howard Quayle has been interviewed, the Examiner has learned.

It is understood that following the intervention of the Chief Minister, Mrs Beecroft and Mr Couch have agreed to put their differences aside.

Mrs Beecroft has previously said that she wanted to draw a line under the issue.

Isle of Man Newspapers has not been approached by the PSC.
