Ramsey’s annual fireworks display will now take place later than planned due to ‘potential transport issues’.
Ramsey Town Commissioners confirmed the display, originally scheduled for October 31, will now be held at Mooragh Park on Saturday, November 21 at 7.30pm.
This will be after Ramsey’s Christmas lights switch-on, which will take place the evening before on Friday, November 20.
The change to the date was made because of a potential issue with the contractor transporting the fireworks to the island in time for the previous date of October 31.
Margaret Webb, lead member for parks and leisure at Ramsey Town Commissioners, commented: ‘We are pleased to be able to confirm a date for our annual firework display.
‘The Ramsey display is always very popular and this year the fireworks will be accompanied by music associated with Take That.
‘We made the decision to change the date of our display when our contractor advised of issues transporting the fireworks to the Isle of Man.
‘We look forward to welcoming everyone to both the firework display and Christmas light switch on, where visitors can visit the largest range of independent retailers in the Isle of Man and our vast array of hospitality options.
‘Ramsey also offers free car parking and is easily accessible via Bus Vannin for those wishing to use public transport.’
Last year’s fireworks display in Ramsey was held at the even later date of December 6, after initially being postponed on November 1 and November 2 due to ‘logistical issues’ and then the weather forecast.
Galaxy Fireworks Isle of Man, which supplies most public displays, confirmed the delay stemmed from issues with dangerous goods certification on the vessel transporting the shipment.
Some residents, particularly pet owners, voiced frustration with the rearranged date online, saying by that point animals will have endured weeks of private and public displays in the north.
