Ratepayers in the capital will be funding the installation of artwork along the promenade sea wall.

Douglas City Council will be providing £16,000 from its reserves to the Department of Infrastructure which has ‘omitted’ the costs from its budget.

The local authority says the sea wall is important for protecting the capital and supporting the project will help ‘protect’ local artists.

Councillor Charlotte Traynor said the new artwork will make the area more ‘vibrant’.

‘It's been a real pleasure for the council to be able to step in and make sure that we are able to complete this really important project,’ she said.

‘We’re contributing to a really vibrant city centre and a culture on the promenade that is going to be something that we can all be really proud of.’
