Police have reminded road users that traffic restrictions around the Mountain Course will remain in place as planned, despite organisers bringing the Manx Grand Prix and Classic TT schedule forward because of forecast weather later this week.

The Isle of Man Constabulary has also reiterated that cycling remains prohibited on the A18 Mountain Road between Ramsey Hairpin and the Creg-ny-Baa during the event period.

The restriction came into force at 9.30am on Friday, August 14, and is due to remain until 4.30pm on Monday, August 31.

Police said clear signage is in place across the Mountain Road and urged cyclists to follow the restrictions.

The A18 remains two-way during the Manx Grand Prix and Classic TT, although temporary speed restrictions remain in place around the course.

The Constabulary said its Roads Policing Unit would continue to patrol the island using both marked and unmarked vehicles, urging riders and drivers to make sensible decisions.

A spokesperson said: ‘We are asking riders and drivers to make sensible, informed decisions so you can enjoy the event and get back safely to your loved ones.’

They also warned that the island continues to function throughout the racing period, with residents travelling to work and carrying out their daily routines.

‘Your decisions on the road affect far more than just you,’ the Constabulary said.

Visitors have also been reminded that vehicles drive on the left-hand side of the road in the Isle of Man, with police particularly urging those travelling from Europe to take extra care at junctions, roundabouts and when turning on to rural roads.

The Constabulary said riders and drivers should understand the capabilities of themselves and their machines, wear appropriate protective clothing and make decisions that will help ensure they return home safely.

It warned that poor decisions could result in ‘a fine, points, a night in a cell or something far worse’.
