To coincide with the start of the new academic year, the Rotary Club of Rushen & Western Mann Charitable Trust has provided a post-graduate bursary support to three Manx students for their 2026/27 post-graduate studies.
The three island students supported are:
- Saoirse Matthews from Foxdale, who will be undertaking the second year of her International Development Masters Degree at Lund University in Sweden. As part of this she will be undertaking a placement with UK-based charity the Nepal Pahar Trust.
- Daniel Millward from Castletown, who is starting a Masters Degree in Astronautics and Space Engineering at University of Cranfield.
- George Lewis from Kirk Michael, who is undertaking post-graduate research into the sustainable use and cultivation of herbal medicines.
Paul Winnell from the Rotary Club of Rushen and Western Mann commented: ‘The generosity of the Manx public who have supported our fundraising activities throughout the year, along with a donation from an individual member of our club, has enabled us to this year expand our bursaries so we can offer small scale funding to three Manx students.
‘All members of our Rotary Club wish them well with their studies.’
Chair of the Rotary Club of Rushen and Western Mann foundation committee, Michael Crowe, added: ‘We have already received an application for a post-graduate bursary for 2027/28, and we inviting others to consider applying for bursaries for the 2027/28 academic year online via our website.
‘Subject to funding being available, we hope that we can support further Manx students in their academic studies next year.’
