A Douglas Chinese takeaway has temporarily stopped serving its quarter crispy aromatic duck after finding that the birds it has been receiving are consistently smaller than before.

Lucky House says it has been monitoring the situation for several months and has tried to find alternative suppliers, but has so far been unable to source ducks of a size it is happy to serve.

The business has therefore taken the decision to remove the quarter duck option from its menu rather than reduce the portion size while continuing to charge the same price.

In a statement to customers, Lucky House said: ‘Rather than continue selling a smaller Quarter Duck at the same price, we’d rather temporarily stop offering it than give you something we don’t feel represents good value.’

The takeaway said the aromatic ducks it has been receiving have been ‘consistently smaller than before’.

It added that it hopes to reintroduce the quarter duck once it can source birds of the size and quality it considers suitable.

Customers can still order half and whole crispy aromatic ducks, however, with Lucky House announcing reduced prices for both options while the quarter portion remains unavailable.

A half duck is now £15, reduced from £22, while a whole duck is £30, down from £41.

The business said: ‘We hope to bring the Quarter Duck back once we can source ducks of the size and quality we’re happy to serve.’

Lucky House thanked customers for their understanding and continued support.

The Chinese takeaway now operates on the steps from Victory Court off Prospect Hill, taking over from Cafe Delight after the sandwich shop and café officially closed its doors back in June.

Lucky House moved into the premises having previously been located at Isle of Man Business Park and then Bucks Road.
