Isle of Man cyclists struck gold and silver in the final day of competition at the Commonwealth Youth Games in the Bahamas today, Sunday.

Thomas Bostock, 16, of Glen Vine won the boys’ cycling road race over a 40-mile course in extremely hot conditions.

Team-mate Will Draper was disappointed not to join him on the podium after missing a late break. He finished fifth.

Earlier in the day, Tara Ferguson, also 16, added silver in the Commonwealth Youth Games to the gold she won in the Island Games three weeks earlier when finishing runner-up in the girls’ road race in the Caribbean.

Thomas Bostock’s gold medal at Commonwealth level comes three days after his elder brother Matthew also won gold riding for Great Britain in the Men’s Under-23 Team Pursuit competition at the European Track Cycling Championships in Anadia, Portugal.

The GB team of Bostock, Ethan Hayter, Joe Holt and Matthew Walls defeated Belgium in the final.
