There’s just under a month until former England international Graeme Swann helps Cronkbourne Cricket Club round off its landmark 150th anniversary season.

Widely regarded as one of England’s finest spin bowlers, Swann will be the guest speaker at a black-tie charity dinner on Saturday, September 12 at Woodbourne House in Douglas.

The event promises to be one of the highlights of the club’s celebrations and organisers are hoping it will attract not only current members, but generations of former players, officials, volunteers and supporters who have all played a part in the club’s rich history.

Swann enjoyed a glittering international career, representing his country in 60 test matches, 79 One-Day Internationals and numerous T20 internationals.

He played a pivotal role in England's Ashes victories in 2009 and 2011, was part of the side that lifted the ICC World T20 trophy in 2010 and was named ECB Cricketer of the Year during his distinguished career.

Domestically, he starred for both Northamptonshire and Nottinghamshire before retiring from the professional game.

The evening begins at 7pm and will feature a three-course dinner, Swann’s after-dinner stories and insights from the international game, the club's annual awards presentation and entertainment into the evening.

Earlier in the day, Cronkbourne’s youngest members will also be celebrating the club's anniversary with junior activities at the Tromode ground from 2pm, ensuring the occasion reflects both the club’s proud heritage and its commitment to the future.

As well as marking 150 years of cricket, the evening will raise funds for Cronkbourne Cricket Club, Hospice Isle of Man and Rebecca House through a raffle and other fundraising activities.

Club chair Kathryn Clough said: ‘Reaching 150 years is a tremendous milestone for Cronkbourne Cricket Club and we wanted to celebrate it in a way that reflects both our proud history and our exciting future.

'Having someone of Graeme Swann’s stature joining us is a fantastic opportunity for local cricket supporters and makes this a very special occasion for the club.

‘We would particularly love to see former members, players, volunteers and friends of the club come back and celebrate with us.

'Whether you played for Cronkbourne decades ago or have supported the club from the sidelines, this promises to be a memorable evening.

‘We are also incredibly grateful to Nedbank for its continuous and invaluable support of Cronkbourne Cricket Club.

'Its commitment to the club has made a real difference over the last few years and we genuinely appreciate the role they continue to play in helping us celebrate this important milestone.’
