The final round of Manx Viking Wheelers' Summer Series took place at the National Sports Centre last Friday evening, bringing the season to an exciting conclusion.

Racing was split into two events, with the B race taking to the circuit first. The field featured a mix of youth riders, seniors and newcomers to the sport.

The bunch remained together throughout the race, setting up a sprint finish where youth prevailed.

Under-16 rider Luke Coomber sprinted to victory ahead of former Isle of Man Road Race Champion Will Corkill, who was making his racing comeback.

Richard Cryer finished third, while Poppy Clayton was the first female rider home in ninth place.

The A race was fast and aggressive from the outset. Repeated attacks from Alec Sorby, Tom Broadbent, Zach Jones and others continually stretched and split the field.

But, with two laps remaining, the race came back together.

Veteran rider Rob Sorby chose his moment perfectly, launching a decisive attack and holding off a chasing Simon Harding to take the victory. Alec Sorby won the bunch sprint to secure third place, with Michael Moss finishing fourth.

The series once again provided close and competitive racing throughout the summer, with 64 riders competing across four categories. It has introduced racing to youth riders and adults new to competitive action in a safe closed road environment.

The next big event for Isle of Man cycling is the age category British national championships which will be held over the weekend of September 12-13. Entries open on RiderHQ.
