Football: Southern sides lead the way in Division Two

Southern teams continue to lead the way in Ardern and Druggan Division Two, with Castletown and Malew occupying first and second after Saturday's matches.

The Mets were 3-1 winners over Marown at the Stadium thanks to goals from Ross Crawford, Alex Crawley and Oliver Leigh. Patty Knight netted the consolation strike for the Crosby outfit.

That score was repeated at Clagh Vane where Malew got the better of Ayre United.

Despite fielding a raft of combination players, the hosts were in a fine form, although they were forced to come from behind after Ben Read gave the Tangerines the lead.

Malew hit back quickly and levelled through Paul Whitley, before he added a second after half-time and Brandon Krypner sealed victory with a third from the spot.

Newly-merged Gymns/Douglas Athletic were in ruthless form as they recorded a 6-1 victory away at Douglas and District at Noble's Park, the latter side returning to their former home after three seasons away.

Will Penhallurick led the way for the visitors with a brace, while Graham Druggan, Andy Burkitt, Joe Hoy and Cal Peat also got their names on the scoresheet.

D&D also created a raft of chances, with their consolation coming via an Ash Humphreys free-kick which had briefly restored parity at 1-1.

Elsewhere in the second division, Michael United continued their unbeaten start with a hard-fought 2-2 draw with Douglas Royal at Ballafletcher.

Alfie Tummon opened the scoring for the hosts early on, but goals from Freddie Crowe and Nathan Faragher turned the game on its head to ensure Michael led at half-time.

Royal responded well in the second half though and substitute Wes Gibson equalised late on to ensure the points were shared.

The other game saw Foxdale record their first win of the season 4-2 at St George's thanks to a brace from Will Taylor plus strikes from Casey McDonald and Ricky Newsham.
