Manx Grand Prix 2026: Johnny Stewart makes history by claiming Senior title

Johnny Stewart made history on Monday afternoon when he became the first rider to win four Manx Grand Prix races in a single meeting.

In near-perfect conditions, the Galashiels man produced another dominant ride, narrowly missing on Joe Yeardsley’s lap record to bring Jamie Cringle’s Ducati V2 home 35.823 seconds ahead of Eddy Wormald.

It completed a MGP clean sweep for the Scotsman who had already added the day’s earlier Junior title to the Sportbike and Supersport double he had completed on Saturday.

Suzuki-mounted Wormald managed to keep Graham McAleese at arm’s length for the runner-up spot, the Bedfordshire rider finishing 10.844 seconds ahead on corrected time after four hard laps of racing around the Mountain Course.

To a soundtrack of bagpipes and cheers in the winner’s enclosure, an emotional Stewart said: ‘That was very special - it will take something special to top that. Now time to celebrate with loads of pints!’

Reflecting on the race he added: ‘I took it steady at the start and then kept it consistent and managed the gap.’

Wormald, who bagged his first 120mph lap during the race, was also delighted. He said: ‘To get on the podium in all four races in massive as a small, self-funded team.’

McAleese admitted he’d had a nervy final lap after his fuel light came on the Michael Dunlop Racing Yamaha R6 at Ramsey. ‘I’m not sure how much it’s got left in it! I was sweating a bit.’

The top three had a comfortable margin over the rest of the field which was headed by Owen Monaghan on the Suzuki GSXR750.

Harley Rushton was fifth and French newcomer Gabriel Pons an impressive sixth.

Manx newcomer Illiam Quayle finished 18th with compatriot Dale Brew 26th. Onchan’s Kyle Casement retired in the pits at the end of lap three.
