Vagabonds Rugby Club’s women’s side is hosting a special event this weekend aimed at attracting new players to the sport.

The ‘Inner Warrior’ event will be held at Ballafletcher between 11am and 1pm on Saturday.

The session, which is aimed at those over the age of 16, will feature elements of rugby, skills, fitness as well as some fun games with prizes.

It will be followed by refreshments in the ground’s clubhouse.

Organiser Sharon McCarrick, who is the club’s youth lead and a current player for the women’s XV, said: ‘Inner Warrior is all about showing women and girls that rugby can be for everyone.

‘Whether you’ve never picked up a rugby ball before or you’re already familiar with the game, this is a chance to come along, have fun, meet new people and give something different a go.

‘You don’t need to be fit, experienced or know all the rules, just bring yourself and be ready to get involved.’

LEAGUE

For the forthcoming season, Vagas will be playing in the 10-team Women’s NC 2 North (West).

The island’s only women’s side kick-off their season with a trip to Didsbury Toc H in Manchester on Saturday, September 26.

A home game against Winnington Park follows on October 10.
