Police have been involved in the curious case of a dog that was found wandering alone in Abbeylands at the weekend.
The dog has been in the care of the Manx Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals since Saturday, October 10 but, as yet, her owners have not come forward.
Today (October 14), police confirmed they had acted in relation to the matter after hearing from a concerned member of the public.
A police spokesperson said: ‘Following information received from a concerned member of the public, police carried out proportionate enquiries in relation to a welfare concern reported to officers, to establish whether the dog could be linked to a person who may require assistance.
‘These enquiries did not identify the owner of the dog and did not identify any welfare concerns.’
‘The dog remains in the care of the MSPCA while efforts continue to locate its owner.’
‘We would encourage anyone who believes they may have information which could help identify the dog's owner to contact the MSPCA directly. If anyone has information or concerns for a person's welfare, they should contact Police Headquarters on 631212, or 999 in an emergency.’
It has now been four days since the puppy was first brought into the Manx SPCA’s care. She is not microchipped, which is a legal requirement in the Isle of Man.
Anyone who believes they may be able to help identify the puppy’s owner can contact the charity on 01624 851672 or by emailing [email protected].
A £21 fee applies to stray dogs taken into the charity’s care to cover cleaning and staff costs.
