Woodbourne Road waves goodbye to its very own Danny DeVito

There are some people you see so often that they become part of the furniture.

And for residents of Woodbourne Road, that person is Danny DeVito.

Well, sort of.

After years of standing proudly in a front window, the Hollywood star is set to wave goodbye to the Douglas street and is preparing for a new chapter elsewhere.

Before anyone starts wondering whether there is a secret film studio hiding behind one of the houses, there is a small catch.

This Danny DeVito is made of cardboard.

The life-size cut-out of the famous actor has spent years keeping a beady eye on life outside the window, watching dog walkers, school runs, delivery drivers and pretty much everything else that happens on Woodbourne Road.

And while he may not have uttered a single word, his presence certainly hasn't gone unnoticed.

Locals have become so accustomed to seeing him that glancing towards the window has become almost second nature.

One resident said: ‘It's strange how attached you get to seeing him there. You'd walk past and think, “There's Danny.” He became part of the scenery.’

Quite.

You might not expect a piece of cardboard to become a local celebrity, but Danny has managed it without needing a red carpet, a film premiere or even a particularly demanding rider.

There have also been no confirmed sightings of Arnold Schwarzenegger popping round for a cup of tea.

Now, as the house changes hands, Danny is moving on too, bringing an end to his long-running stint as Woodbourne Road's unofficial neighbourhood watchman.

His new address is being kept under wraps, although one thing is certain: there will be a few people looking up at that window and wondering where their familiar Hollywood face has gone.

Some people move house and nobody notices.

Danny DeVito is not one of them.
