Manx National Heritage (MNH) has contacted an election candidate after its logo was inadvertently used on campaign material ahead of this month’s General Election.

The heritage organisation has stressed that it is an independent, apolitical registered charity and does not endorse or support individual political candidates.

In a statement, MNH said: ‘We have been in contact with an election candidate who has inadvertently used the Manx National Heritage logo on their campaign materials.

‘To make sure that everyone is aware ahead of the election - Manx National Heritage is an independent apolitical registered charity, and we would not endorse or support individual political candidates.’

The organisation added that it remained willing to engage with candidates from across the political spectrum.

‘We are always happy to engage with candidates from across the political spectrum about the importance of protecting and sharing the islands' historic and cultural heritage,’ it said.

It is not the first time a local organisation has had to clarify that it does not endorse election candidates.

The initiative, which provides free weekly community meals, said it had noticed its name being used in campaign material by a prospective MHK in Glenfaba and Peel.

‘We don’t endorse candidates, and we don’t want the kindness and hard work of our volunteers being used to imply an association, involvement or endorsement where there isn’t one,’ the group said.

The initiative invited candidates who wanted to understand its work to attend a meal, meet volunteers and speak to the people it supports.

‘The Shared Table isn’t a campaign tool. It isn’t a photo opportunity. And it isn’t here to win anybody votes,’ it said.
