Constituency by constituency: How did turnout vary across the Isle of Man in the last General Election?

With polling now well underway, we have had a look back at how voters turned out across each of the Isle of Man’s 12 constituencies at the last General Election.

Overall, 32,812 of the 64,744 eligible voters cast a ballot, giving an island-wide turnout of 50.68%. There were 58,914 votes cast, with voters using an average of 1.79 votes each.

Here’s how each constituency compared:

There were 5,990 eligible voters, with 3,379 turning out, giving a turnout of 56.41%. A total of 5,821 votes were cast, with voters using an average of 1.72 votes. There were 68 eligible voters aged 16 or 17, with 30 voting – a turnout of 44.12% among that age group.

Of the 5,127 eligible voters, 3,204 voted, producing a turnout of 62.49%. There were 6,024 votes cast, with an average of 1.88 votes used per voter. Among 16 and 17-year-olds, 39 of the 90 eligible voters cast a ballot, giving a turnout of 43.33%.

There were 5,327 eligible voters, of whom 2,282 voted, resulting in a turnout of 42.84%. The constituency recorded 4,039 votes cast, with an average of 1.77 votes used. Of the 88 eligible 16 and 17-year-olds, 35 voted – 39.77%.

Douglas East

Of 4,891 eligible voters, 1,772 turned out, giving a turnout of 36.23%. There were 3,100 votes cast, with an average of 1.75 votes used. Among younger voters, 13 of the 45 eligible 16 and 17-year-olds voted, giving a turnout of 28.89%.

The constituency had 4,713 eligible voters, with 1,982 voting, giving a turnout of 42.05%. There were 3,494 votes cast, with voters using an average of 1.76 votes. Of the 70 eligible 16 and 17-year-olds, 27 voted – a turnout of 38.57%.

There were 4,897 eligible voters, with 2,295 turning out, giving a turnout of 46.87%. The number of votes cast was 4,132, with an average of 1.80 votes used. Among 16 and 17-year-olds, 36 of 83 eligible voters voted – 43.37%.

Of 5,292 eligible voters, 2,718 voted, producing a turnout of 51.36%. There were 4,802 votes cast, with an average of 1.77 votes used. Of the 85 eligible 16 and 17-year-olds, 44 voted, giving a turnout of 51.76%.

The constituency had 6,380 eligible voters, with 3,639 turning out, giving a turnout of 57.04%. There were 6,756 votes cast, with an average of 1.86 votes used. Among the 97 eligible 16 and 17-year-olds, 39 voted – 40.21%.

There were 4,755 eligible voters, with 2,410 voting, resulting in a turnout of 50.68%. A total of 4,261 votes were cast, with an average of 1.77 votes used. Of the 83 eligible 16 and 17-year-olds, 59 voted – a turnout of 71.08%.

Of the 5,200 eligible voters, 2,335 turned out, giving a turnout of 44.90%. There were 4,143 votes cast, with an average of 1.77 votes used. Among 16 and 17-year-olds, 33 of 83 eligible voters voted – 39.76%.

The constituency had 6,288 eligible voters, with 3,367 voting, giving a turnout of 53.55%. There were 6,300 votes cast, with voters using an average of 1.87 votes. Of the 76 eligible 16 and 17-year-olds, 30 voted – 39.47%.

There were 5,884 eligible voters, with 3,429 turning out, giving a turnout of 58.28%. The constituency recorded 6,042 votes cast, with an average of 1.76 votes used. Among the 82 eligible 16 and 17-year-olds, 51 voted – 62.20%.

In total, 950 voters aged 16 or 17 were eligible to vote, with 436 casting a ballot, giving an overall turnout of 45.89% among that group.

The figures also show how turnout can vary considerably between constituencies, with the island-wide figure standing at 50.68%.

With polls closing at 8pm tonight, the big question will be whether turnout across the Island changes compared with those previous figures.
