They urged motorists to ’leave home in plenty of time’ when going the Mountain way today (Thursday), as it was minus one degree with ’poor visibility’.

Patches of snow and ice are also said to be on the roads.

A spokesman said: ’Please leave home in plenty of time and drive to the conditions. It is far better to arrive late to your destination than not at all.’
