Ramsey Commissioners say planning permission for their new social housing scheme is ‘very welcome’.

It means that, after more than five years, the local authority can develop the former Albert Road and Close Woirrey site into two blocks of flats.

The commissioners have more than 90 applicants on their waiting list and believe the new flats will ‘serve a purpose’ for the town.

Chair Sandra Cottam-Shea hopes the approval will encourage developers and building companies to invest in social and affordable housing projects.

‘From the suggestion to it getting passed, I think it’s taken just over five years,’ she said. ‘Hopefully, the bricks and mortar will be quicker.

‘The new flats will be lovely, and they will serve a much-needed purpose.’
