Audit Vannin has outlined its programme of value for money reviews for the coming year in a report to the new Tynwald.
In his update report, to be laid before this month’s Tynwald sitting, Auditor General Stephen Warren said: ‘My ambition remains for Audit Vannin to be an exemplar of public audit - independent, professional, proportionate and focused on the matters that are most important to Tynwald and to the people of the Isle of Man.’
He said the principal matter requiring attention from the new Tynwald was for parliament to reform the island’s public audit legislation as soon as possible.
Mr Warren said that in 2026-27 financial year he has a number of reviews underway.
The first covers whistleblowing and instances where it has led to dismissal.
Another, phased, review is ongoing into the government’s approach to the management of fees and charges.
The Tynwald Auditor General is also reviewing the the effectiveness and value for money of the Department of Infrastructure’s management of the government’s vehicle fleet, focusing initially on ambulances.
Manx Care’s approach to the management of off-island referrals is being evaluated as is government’s procurement of goods and services.
A number of other reviews are also planned.
One will look at the importance of clinical efficiency in securing value for money in the provision of health care services.
Another will consider the management of major projects.
And a third will focus on primary school provision.
Mr Warren took up his post as the first Tynwald Auditor General in May 2023.
Audit Vannin’s remit is to conduct audits and assurance reviews, carry out value for money inspections and identify matters for investigation by the Public Accounts Committee.
There had been criticism at its rate of progress but Mr Warren in his update report said Audit Vannin has now moved from establishment into delivery.
