A brother is preparing to complete a 38-hour fundraising challenge in memory of his sister, who died aged 38, with the aim of raising £3,800 for mental health charity Isle Listen.

Danny Foulis will undertake the challenge, called ‘38 for Laura’, in memory of his ‘one of a kind’ sister Laura Foulis, who died following a fire at a rural farm stable in Milnrow, Manchester, on July 3.

An inquest into her death was opened and adjourned at Rochdale Coroner's Court back in August, with a full inquest set to be held at a date to be set.

In a statement announcing the fundraiser, Danny said Laura was a mother to Ole, Ellie and Jack, as well as a daughter, sister and friend.

‘Her loss has left a space in our lives that can never truly be filled,’ Danny said. ‘Like anyone who has experienced loss, there's no easy way to describe the impact.’

He also spoke about Laura’s mental health struggles and the impact similar challenges had had on the family, including the death of his uncle by suicide several years ago.

‘I know many others who are currently facing similar struggles, whether personally or through someone they care about,’ he added. ‘That's why I've decided to take on "38 for Laura”.’

For every year of Laura's life, Danny will complete one mile, every hour, on the hour, for 38 hours, aiming to raise £3,800.

The challenge begins at 7pm on Friday, November 6, and is scheduled to finish at 9am on Sunday, November 8.

The one-mile route starts at The Meadow Gym, taking in the bottom and top of Royal Avenue, passing Corkhill Garage, continuing down Summer Hill and through Hague Drive before returning through the park.

Danny plans to complete the route 38 times, with members of the public invited to join him for the final mile on Sunday morning.

‘Honouring my sister is the sole purpose of doing this challenge,’ Danny added.

‘But I also wanted to also raise as much money as possible to raise to support for Isle Listen and charities that are tasked with creating a foundation to support vulnerable people and give them a platform to be able to talk openly about their struggles and the issues that they're having.

‘I ask that you please try to get behind it and support it. If you know anyone that's struggling with their mental health, going through issues or has lost family members, then please keep an eye out and do everything you can to support this event.’

Alongside the challenge, The Meadow Gym in Onchan will host a community open day on Saturday, November 7, with taster sessions between 1pm and 5pm, supported by local businesses, fitness coaches and mental health advocates.
