Businesses across the Isle of Man are being invited to attend a training day aimed at helping women recover from abusive or violent relationships.

Jess Welch is the founder of ‘Space4Action’, a domestic abuse support social enterprise.

Titled ‘Own My Life’ the free taster day will take place on October 22, at Keyll Daree adjacent to Noble’s Hospital.

The aim of the workshop is to give professionals the opportunity to learn more about the innovative ‘Own My Life’ recovery programme. It focuses on helping women rebuild their lives following abusive relationships.

‘Own My Life’ is a creative, educational 12-week course that supports women to regain a sense of ownership and control after experiencing abuse.

Using multimedia content, the programme explores how popular culture can reinforce harmful attitudes including sexism, violence, coercive control and disrespect in relationships.

Founder Jess said: ‘By increasing awareness of the programme, we hope to ensure that even more women can access support and begin their recovery journey.’

The course, which will run in both 2027 and 2028, breaks down complex topics into accessible and easy-to-understand concepts, helping participants recognise patterns of abuse, understand its impact and develop the tools and confidence to move forward.

Jess says Space4Action has received growing interest from a range of different businesses who would like to refer women onto the course.

She added: ‘It’s great that so many professionals have approached us about referring women to Own My Life. The course is designed to help women make sense of their experiences, rebuild their confidence and recognise that abuse is never their fault.’

‘The taster day allows professionals to experience elements of the course for themselves, understand the principles behind it and gain the information they need to make informed referrals.’

Only those who have completed the taster day can refer women into the Own My Life programme. To book a place email [email protected] by October 1.
