Lawyer Charlene Lloyd has become dual-qualified in South Africa and the Isle of Man after being commissioned as a Manx advocate.
Ms Lloyd, who works in Callin Wild’s Litigation Department, was formally called to the Bar and commissioned as an Advocate of the Isle of Man on Tuesday, August 4.
She joined Callin Wild as a South African-qualified lawyer and has continued working at the firm while completing the requirements needed to qualify in the island.
During that time, Ms Lloyd has gained experience across a range of contentious matters, including commercial and civil litigation, employment and public law.
Her commissioning marks the latest stage in her legal career and means she is now qualified to practise in two jurisdictions.
Ms Lloyd said: ‘I am incredibly proud to have been commissioned as an Advocate of the Isle of Man.
‘Qualifying in a new jurisdiction while working in practice has certainly been a challenge, but an enormously rewarding one.
‘I am particularly grateful to Jonathan Wild and everyone at Callin Wild for the support, guidance and opportunities they have given me throughout the process.
‘I am excited to continue developing my practice within the Litigation Department, now as a Manx Advocate, and look forward to what comes next.’
Jonathan Wild, head of litigation at Callin Wild, said: ‘We are delighted to congratulate Charlene on her commissioning.
‘Qualifying as an Advocate while continuing to develop her litigation practice is a significant achievement.
‘Charlene has become a valued member of our Litigation team and we look forward to seeing her continue to develop her practice at the Manx Bar.
‘Her commissioning is an important milestone in her career and reflects the hard work involved in qualifying in a second jurisdiction.
‘Congratulations Charlene.’
