Isle of Man Post Office has issued a set of six commemorative stamps on the 70th anniversary of the engagement of the Queen to Prince Philip.
The set charts landmark wedding anniversaries and is accompanied by Dickie Arbiter’s story of the couple’s marriage.
Each stamp includes metallic print and a white orchid which was included in the Queen’s bouquet on the couple’s wedding day, and a quotation from their wedding vows.
The initial stamp in the set features a black and white image of the Royal Wedding in 1947, which is then followed by a further five high definition colour stamp images of the couple, each marking a subsequent landmark anniversary up until the present one, their platinum wedding anniversary in 2017.
The Lieutenant Governor, Sir Richard Gozney, said: ’I applaud the Isle of Man Post Office for congratulating The Queen and The Duke of Edinburgh on their 70th wedding anniversary.
’I think this reflects the special place which Her Majesty and His Royal Highness hold in the affections of the people of the Isle of Man.’
Maxine Cannon, Isle of Man Stamps and Coins General Manager, added: ’We are pleased to mark this momentous year for Queen and Prince Philip by releasing these special stamps on the anniversary of their engagement, 70 years ago.’
