A 20-minute ITVX feature has offered viewers a glimpse of life on the Calf of Man, including its wildlife and the work of the teams who live and work there.

The feature, titled ‘Life on a remote island off the southern coast of the Isle of Man’, follows the island’s wildlife wardens and a seal team surveying the coastline for new-born seal pups.

It was produced by Josh Stokes, a journalist with Granada Reports who is based in the Isle of Man.

The programme on the broadcaster’s online streaming platform, explores the experience of living on the remote island and the wildlife found around its coastline.

Mr Stokes said the Calf had long been somewhere he wanted to film for ITV, and described working alongside the wardens as a fantastic opportunity.

He said: ‘It was a joy to meet the teams working there, and to get a glimpse into their fascinating way of living.

‘I just hope the feature highlights the vital work being carried out by such a dedicated, talented group of people, who I will always be thinking of each time I look over from the Sound!’

The Calf, which lies off the southern tip of the Isle of Man, is known for its wildlife and secluded landscape.

The feature, which was filmed in early September, has been well received, bringing the work of those caring for the island’s wildlife to a wider audience.

Mr Stokes said the experience gave him the chance to see plenty of wildlife while spending time with the teams working on the island.

Manx Wildlife Trust’s wardens and volunteers live at the island’s bird observatory during the spring-to-autumn season, recording and helping conserve its wildlife.

Their work includes bird surveys, ringing and monitoring seabirds, as well as managing the site and supporting visitors.
